Parsons Public Library announces closure due to COVID-19

Dated: March 18, 2020

After carefully considering a multitude of factors and the rapidly changing situation, the Parsons Public Library will be closed on Wednesday, March 18, through Tuesday, March 31, 2020. The library intends to reopen on Wednesday, April 1, unless the closure is extended.

This decision was made in support of the overall health and wellness of our community and for the safety of our patrons and staff. This difficult decision is the responsible thing to do-and the best way to serve our patrons right now-is to help minimize the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus).

Libraries play a critical role, and we care deeply about the community we serve, so we are taking steps to support our patrons as much as possible during the temporary closure:

• Due dates are being extended during this closure period.
• We encourage you to keep any materials you may have until the library reopens. If you wish to return your materials, please use the walk-up drop box, located on the east side of the library, or the library’s drive-up drop box, located by the City of Parsons water bill drop box.
• All library events and meeting room reservations have been cancelled through March 31.
• We encourage patrons to make the most of the online resource provided by the library and the State Library of Kansas. These free options to download audio and ebooks, digital magazines and newspapers, and full online access to the New York Times, are all available 24/7 on the library’s website.

The library will continue to monitor COVID-19 updates and work with state and medical departments to determine the next steps.

The health and safety of our patrons and staff are our top priority. Any further decision will be posted on our website and Facebook page. We will continue to check our library email and social media inboxes for questions, but please be patient with us as we may take longer to respond than usual. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we thank you for your continued understanding and support.

Thank you,
Samantha Graven
Library Director
